Capt. Michael G. McGee and Capt. Michael C. Phillips are to receive the 2017 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea in recognition of their actions in averting a tragedy when the ship they were piloting broke down and caught fire in the Houston Ship Channel last year.
The law creates a Cannabis Control Commission to regulate the recreational and medical marijuana industries. The commission also will set potency limits for edible marijuana products and adopt packaging requirements that conform to a detailed list of health and safety protections.
The request under the Technology Advancement Program offers $500,000 for one or two demonstrations of technologies that will upgrade engines to Tier 3 or Tier 4 standards, which means the engines are as much as 70 percent cleaner. Proposals are due by Sept. 21.
"A number of mine operators have proactively implemented corrective action programs to address specific hazards at their mines to improve miner safety and health, and those efforts are paying off," said Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health Patricia W. Silvey.
Signed by 38 governors, the compact makes recommendations to better secure states' cyber infrastructure by building cybersecurity governance, preparing and defending the state from cybersecurity events, and growing the country's cybersecurity workforce.

Staffers from the agency's division of Coal Mine Safety and Health and training specialists from Educational Field and Small Mine Services will visit coal mines to review approved training plans and talk with and observe miners with one year or less experience at the mine and miners with one year or less experience performing their current job.
