In putting together the guide, the working group considered the practices of hundreds of inspectors from the 28 member states of the European Union. The first release is in English and it will be translated to all official languages in the EU.
The five-member investigation panel identified several failures in using basic safety management practices, failures that may have contributed to a supervisor's death in 2014.
"Firefighters need health care that is tailored to the inherent risks of their dangerous jobs," said Chief John Sinclair, IAFC's president and chairman of the board. "The guide provides doctors and firefighters clear information about the clinical care needed to address these risks."
It was created from a desire to align AIHA's resources and development opportunities with the various career stages of the profession.
